Ireland may have missed out on the hat-trick of winning the World Cup class at Tattersalls International Horse Trials this year after having had wins by Captain Geoff Curran in 2008 and Patricia Ryan in 2009, but it was an Irish bred horse, Ashvale Cruise Master under the superb guidance of GB jockey Oliver Townend that won the 2010 Tattersalls International Horse Trials in association with HSI incorporating the HSBC FEI World Cup tm Eventing title. Oliver led from the first phase to finish on a score of 51.6 on the 11 year old grey gelding by the Irish Sport Horse, Cruising.
One of the most popular riders on the circuit, Mary King GB held on to second place on Apache Sauce despite having one fence down in the show jumping.
The only show jumping clear of the day was produced by Ireland's Michael Ryan from Bandon, Co Cork riding Ballylynch Adventure who put in a magnificent round to end up in third place. The horse which is owned by Carol and Tom Henry was originally produced by local Auctioneer, John Bannon, from Dunshaughlin, Co Meath who is an active member of the North Leinster region and himself competing at Tattersalls.
Jayne Doherty from Richill in Co Armagh who moved up to ninth place from being nineteenth after the dressage phase took home the Ian Olding Trophy for the most improved placing by a Northern Region rider, and also the prize for the best thoroughbred in the class, the bay gelding, Ravenstar, bred by Yvonne McClintock and Jean O'Brien in Tipperary.
The competition brought to a close another highly successful event bathed in sunshine with large crowds enjoying the champagne strawberries and the world class hospitality at Tattersalls!
