New format announced for the November National Hunt Foal Sale

The Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Foal Sale will be catalogued by day in A-Z format from this years 2023 renewal. This will now align with all other Tattersalls Ireland sales and is a format well established across the industry.

This sale is the market leader for National Hunt foals and this decision has been taken following extensive consultation over a number of years with vendors and purchasers alike and the 2023 renewal is considered the correct time to apply the alpha lotting system.

It should be noted that there will be no change to the foal selling days and each day will be treated as a separate entity and catalogued alphabetically by dam with the same starting letter applying to each day throughout the four day foal section.

The benefits of adopting an A-Z lotting system will offer advantages to both purchasers and vendors alike.

Showing: Barns will now be a safer area for purchasers to view foals with less congestion.

Purchasers: Less congestion in barns will allow purchasers more time and space to view individual lots.

Stabling: Vendors/consignors with larger drafts will be able to work from one base for the duration of the sale and not have to move to a different location for each day of selling as was previously the case. This will assist notably with the staffing challenges which consignors have faced increasingly in recent years.

Vendors: Vendors will enjoy a fair allocation of lot number on each day of selling.

Selling Days: Vendors can retain confidence that the days of selling are not changing and they will continue to be able to sell on their traditional day for the most part.

Last year's sale produced consistently strong trade with spirited demand from both pinhookers and racing owners alike. The turnover for the Foal section of €12,440,400 was the third-best ever behind 2007 and 2006. The enthusiastic market saw 685 foals sold for a record-breaking median of €14,500 and an average of €18,161.

In total, 36 foals sold for €50,000 or more, and for the first time since 2007 over 137 foals fetched €30,000 and over. A new record for a Day session was set on Tuesday when acheiving a best-ever average of €24,884 and a matched median of €20,000, increases of 27 per cent and 33 per cent on the 2021 session.

Entries are now open for the November National Hunt Sale which will take place from 10 - 16 November 2023.
