Sensational year of sales at Tattersalls Ireland

Tattersalls Ireland concluded its 2017 sales season with substantial gains across all three venues, Fairyhouse, Ascot and Cheltenham. Tattersalls Ireland recorded an increase in aggregate for the sixth consecutive year and all-time record averages for all three venues for a calendar year of €20,347, £9,030 and £82,211. The Fairyhouse sales venue enjoyed record editions of the Derby, September and November NH Sales in 2017 while Cheltenham Sales boasted an increase of 33% and the best price ever achieved for the sale of a Point to Point horse of £480,000. Ascot Sales continued on their current consistent growth trend and increased by 2%.

"The phenomenal trade experienced at Tattersalls Ireland over the past couple of years took another giant leap forward in 2017 experiencing growth for the sixth consecutive year, the third highest aggregate on record experiencing an 19% increase to conclude 2017 with a turnover of €53,412,000 and the highest average ever recorded at Tattersalls Ireland of €20,347.
 
"The market leading Derby Sale continues to be the main highlight of the Tattersalls Ireland sales calendar. 2017 achieved a record 33 horses realising €100,000 or more and the highest price given anywhere for a three-year-old store of €220,000. The two days trade produced the best set of returns for a Derby Sale on record; the highest aggregate of €17,665,500 (+24%), highest average of €51,654 (+9%) and highest median of €42,500 (+18%) ever recorded at the sale since its inception in 1975. The September Yearling Sale earned the accolade of one of the best performing yearling sales in Europe with a 90% clearance rate and a sparkling set of statistics and a sale topping record of €230,000. 2017 concluded with the sensational renewal of the November National Hunt Sale and remarkable trade throughout the whole week with the best set of results for the sale since 2007 - then a 13-day sale and a record median of €11,500 and a record average of €15,996. 


 
"Tattersalls Ireland graduates provide the best possible form of promotion for any sale and 2017 has witnessed some very special horses on the track; Gold Cup winner Sizing John, Finian's Oscar, Death Duty, Wicklow Brave, Yorkhill and One For Arthur all impressed on the National Hunt Field and on the Flat, two-year-old Unfortunately enjoyed Group 1 and 2 success further complimented by Time Warp in Hong Kong,  Hawksmoor and Quinta Verde in the US, Cold Stare and Ardenode in France, Duca Valentinois in Australia, Koropick in Great Britain and Realtra and Ellthea in Ireland and a significant increase in high profile progressive two-year-old winners, all highlighting the true international appeal for our Flat sales at Tattersalls Ireland.

"Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Sales has seen continuous and consistent growth with further development of the sales venue attracting a great number of customers to the venue resulting in a turnover of £6,131,500. Without a doubt, the greatest success came from this year's two-year-old Breeze Up Sale producing a 7% increase to £2,012,600, the first time this sale has passed the £2million mark. We also witnessed the introduction of a Yearling Sale to Ascot which in its first year, produced encouraging statistics and showed scope for further progression. 

 
"Ascot graduate continue to fly the flag in winners' enclosures across the world and in 2017, Sands of Mali, winner of the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld Gimcrack Stakes was the highest rated two-year-old in Great Britain to be sold at any breeze up sale. 

Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham
 
"Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Sales in 2017 have been truly overwhelming resulting in 65 horses making £100,000 or more (97% more than 2016) and an all-time record price for a Point to Point horse of £480,000 and a Point to Point mare of £320,000. The sales season at Cheltenham finished with considerable gains; the annual turnover increased 33% to £18,333,000 and the average for 2017 jumped to £82,211, a 53% increase on 2016.

 
"The number of Cheltenham Sale graduates winning at the highest level on the track has soared; Fayonagh, a dual Champion Bumper winner, Finian's Oscar (above), a multiple Grade 1 winner, On The Blindside, unbeaten and winner of two Grade 2 races and these horses were all purchased within the last 12 months in the Tattersalls Ireland sales arena and all testament to the quality of horses purchased at this venue.
