TATTERSALLS IRELAND SUPER AUCTION SALES STAKES ANNOUNCES MAJOR PRIZE MONEY INCREASE TO €300,000 IN 2016

The Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes remains one of the most valuable and longest running sales races of its kind in Europe and the €300,000 prize money is almost three times more than what was on offer as recently as in 2013. Longines Irish Champions Weekend, now going into its third year, has firmly cemented its position on the racing calendar and each year continues to grow from strength to strength showcasing the very best that Irish racing has to offer.

All graduates of the 2015 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale and the September Yearling Sale Part II are eligible, and entries close at noon on Wednesday, 27th January. Although the prize money has increased the entry fee will remain at €2,000. The race will again be run over a distance of six furlongs and 63 yards.

Commenting on the prize money increase, Tattersalls Ireland Managing Director Roger Casey said;

“We are delighted to be in a position to further increase the prize fund for the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Stakes to €300,000. The race will continue to be a part of Longines Irish Champions Weekend, and last year saw 27 horses go to post. Racegoers witnessed a thrilling finish at last year’s Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes, which saw GLASS HOUSE pass the post ahead of WAR QUEEN both running in the colours of Sheikh Fahad Al Thani’s Qatar Racing Limited.

 I would also like to express our sincere appreciation to HRI for their continued support. The added purse will further entice owners and trainers to target the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes with their yearlings from the September Yearling Sale, the sale that grew more than any other yearling sale in Europe in 2015.”
