Septemberr Yearling Sale graduate Steller's Sea won the Listed Premio Mauro Sbarigia.

There was success on Italian Derby Day at the San Siro for September Yearling Sale graduate STELLER’S SEA.

The three-year-old son of Ghaiyyath proved far too strong for his three rivals in the Listed Premio Mauro Sbarigia, staying on strongly in the testing conditions, to prevail by five-and-a-half lengths.

Steller’s Sea is trained by Stefano Botti, and was purchased by his trainer from Tally-Ho Stud at the 2024 September Yearling Sale.

It was a fifth career win for the colt, who was adding to his course win back in March, and he looks set for a hike in grade after his impressive win on Tuesday.

Stellar’s Sea is one of 154 individual winners from the 2024 September Yearling Sale, and between them those horses have won 221 races.

Among the high profile graduates from that sale are the Group 3 Greenham Stakes winner ALPARSLAN, and recent Listed Pretty Polly Stakes winner JENNIFER JANE.

Entries for the 2026 September Yearling Sale are now open. The clearance rate of 93% at the 2025 edition of the sale was the highest of any yearling sale worldwide, while the average of €42,635 and median of €37,000 were also new records and significant increases on previous figures.
