Major Prize Money Increase for Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes

The prize fund for Sunday’s Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes has received a significant boost, with news that surplus funds received from entries for the prestigious sales race, are being placed back into the overall prize money. It means that the full value of the race is now €316,500, which is €66,500 above the original value.

The increase will provide an added incentive for connections of those entered, with the highly competitive six-and-a-half-furlong contest set to form part of Champions Festival Weekend at The Curragh on Sunday.

The Super Auction Sales Stakes has gone for export over the last number of years, with Greenham Stakes winner ALPARSLAN winning last year’s renewal, French raider SPIRIT D’OR winning the 2024 edition, while Richard Fahey’s NATIVE AMERICAN came home an easy winner three years ago.

19 horses were confirmed at the five-day entry stage on Tuesday, with the Joseph O’Brien trained STAR OF STATE among the standouts after an excellent second placed effort in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York last month.

She is one of three still in the race owned by Mr Jabar Abdullah who also owns the Listed Dragon Stakes winner BINT ARCHANGE, while last year’s winning trainer Karl Burke trains the recent Carlisle runner up MEHMAS STAR.

The Hugo Palmer-trained ADAAY OF SCARLETT has been a model of consistency for connection throughout the season, and the three-time Group 2 runner-up would add another layer of intrigue to the race should connections opt to travel at the weekend.

The Super Auction Sales Stakes is for yearlings sold or bought in under the hammer at the September Yearling Sale and Sapphire Sale, where purchasers are provided with the opportunity to opt into the race at the point of purchase. The vendor of the winning horse in Sunday’s race will receive an Overlander R240 horsebox for one year.
