Emphasis on Quality with Derby Sale Catalogue Now Online

Kopek Des Bordes became the sixth Derby Sale graduate to win the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Tattersalls Ireland is excited to announce that the catalogue for the 2025 Derby Sale, held in partnership with MSL Mercedes-Benz, is now available to view online.

This year’s Derby Sale will feature 449 lots, with an additional 201 catalogued in Part II of the sale. One of the most anticipated developments is the reintroduction of the two-year-old section, with 31 two-year-olds featuring at the end of day one.

The major spring festivals at Leopardstown, Cheltenham and Aintree were dominated by Derby Sale graduates. In the novice division, Kopek Des Bordes followed up his Dublin Racing Festival victory with a faultless display at Cheltenham, while Final Demand looks a hugely exciting chasing prospect based on his two Grade 1 victories. Jonbon secured three more Grade 1 successes, while Brighterdaysahead continued the domination of Derby Sale graduates with successive Grade 1 victories.

Quality is at the essence of the Derby Sale, and each lot catalogued meets the criteria required to feature in Ireland’s leading National Hunt sale.

Those catalogued that are siblings or relatives to Grade 1 winners include a Jet Away half-brother to FINAL DEMAND, Walzertakt half-brother to MAJBOROUGH, Crystal Ocean filly out of a half-sister to BOB OLINGER, and Affinisea half-brother to LECKY WATSON.

The much anticipated two-year-old section includes siblings to some of National Hunt racings biggest names, among them, MAXIOS full-brother to the four-time Grade 1 winner GAELIC WARRIOR, Poet’s Word half-brother to Grade 1 winning juvenile hurdler HELLO NEIGHBOUR, and Walk In The Park half-brother to dual Grade 1 winner CONFLATED.

The progeny of 97 different stallions are included across the catalogue, with BLUE BRESIL represented strongest numerically with 34 lots featuring, while Cheltenham Gold Cup winning sire WALK IN THE PARK has 33 lots catalogued. POET’S WORD has enjoyed a solid start with his first crop of four-year-olds in the point-to-point field, and 28 lots are in the catalogue for the Boardsmill Stud based stallion, while 23 lots by MAXIOS have been catalogued. Other stallions featuring through the catalogue include DOCTOR DINO, COKORIKO, BEAUMEC DE HOUELLE, CRYSTAL OCEAN , GETAWAY, NO RISK AT ALL, MASKED MARVEL, GOLIATH DU BERLAIS, JUKEBOX JURY, HARZAND, VADAMOS, SOLDIER OF FORTUNE, SAINT DES SAINTS, ORDER OF ST GEORGE and NIRVANA DU BERLAIS.

Commenting on the release of the Derby Sale catalogue, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said:

“The release of the Derby Sale catalogue is always highly anticipated, and you’ll see that we have once again attracted the cream of what Ireland and the UK have to offer. The Derby Sale is long recognised as the National Hunt sale which attracts the best horses, and our inspection team has worked incredibly hard to ensure that the quality for which the Derby Sale is synonymous, is ever present throughout the catalogue.

“That quality wouldn’t be possible without the invaluable support of our vendors. The next part of the process for us is attracting National Hunt racing’s leading owners, trainers and agents, and a catalogue with such strength and depth makes that an easier task.

“The return of the two-year-old section has been a major talking point over the winter months, and the presence of three siblings to Grade 1 winners in that section is sure to attract a huge amount of interest.

“We look forward to once again delivering a warm Tattersalls Ireland welcome in June, for three of the most highly anticipated dates in the sales calendar.”

All horses catalogued and offered at the Derby Sale are eligible for the Tattersalls Ireland MSL Mercedes-Benz Bumper, which will be run at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival on December 28th 2026. The vendor of the winning horse will drive away in a brand-new Mercedes-Benz GLC. For the first time, three-year-olds sold 18 months earlier as two-year-olds at the Derby Sale will have the opportunity to participate in an Irish bumper. This race complements the Academy Hurdle Race Series by HRI and ensures point-to-point graduates remain eligible, even if sold to new owners.
