GREAT BRITAIN CLAIM GENTLEMAN’S CHALLENGE & IRELAND TAKE LADIES CHALLENGE AT TATTERSALLS INTERNATIONAL POINT TO POINT

Great Britain returned to the Tattersalls Ireland International Point to Point and regained the Gentlemen’s Irish/Great British Challenge compliments of current UK Point to Point Champion, Will Biddick and his win aboard I C Gold edging his team ahead of their Irish rivals. For the second year in a row, Biddick secured the victory with his fellow team mate, John Mathias on Eileen Aroon in second spot and Robbie Henderson aboard Ms Jilly Maaye in third. The Irish Ladies team edged ahead of their Great British counterparts by virtue of Rachel Blackmore’s third place aboard Porlock Bay in the Ladies Challenge race. Great Britain’s Bryony Frost, Bridget Andrews and Gina Andrews claimed claimed fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.

Tattersalls Ireland continues to endorse mares racing initiatives at Point to Points across the country and enhanced the card at the two day meeting by adding a €5,000 bonus to the Mares Winners Race. The Tattersalls Ireland sponsored €5,000 Mares Winners Bonus Race was won by the Anthony Black trained Peggy Do partnered by Barry O’Neill for jubilant owner, John Murphy.

Tattersalls Ireland introduced the concept of claiming races at the inaugural Point to Point last year initially staging two claiming races. On the back of that success, the 2014 running of the Point to Point saw four claiming races added to the card. Trainer Tony Martin was an active purchaser in the €15,000 Four-Year-Old Maiden claiming two horses from the race, the winner; Thecorruptor and the fourth place four-year-old; Blackwater Bridge. Three horses were claimed from the €10,000 Five-Year-Old Geldings Maiden and purchasers included Donald McCain and Gordon Elliott who also claimed the winner of the €5,000 Mares Claiming Race, I C Gold. In total, six horses were claimed for the sum of €82,150.
