MAJOR INCREASES ACROSS THE BOARD AT CONCLUSION OF NOVEMBER NH FOAL SALE

The turnover for the four days of €10,064,900 is the first time that the €10 million barrier has been breached since 2007, (when there was 954 more foals catalogued) and represented an improvement of 30% on 2013’s foal aggregate of €7,740,400.

The average price of €14,018 and the median of €11,500 are increases of 11% and 35% respectively on last year, while the extremely strong clearance rate seen all week remained at its record level of 81%.

Eleven foals made €50,000 or more, topped by the €95,000 given yesterday by Aiden Murphy for the Flemensfirth full-brother to Sizing Gold. The week’s top-priced filly was also by Flemensfirth, John O’Byrne spending €45,000 on an own-sister to the former Champion hurdler Rock On Ruby.

Trade operated at a lower level today, but it was no less competitive for the strongest individual with the average and median up by 42% and 70%.

Mount Eaton Stud, consignors of this year’s Derby Sale top lot, bought today’s top three foals, headed by an Egmont Stud-consigned Fame And Glory colt, who cost €35,000.

He is a second foal out of the Saddler’s Hall mare Coonagh Cross, a half-sister to the Grade 3 Ballybrit Novice Chase winner Sunset Lodge, and from the leading Irish NH family of Shannon Spray, Eirespray and Direct Access.

A Presenting half-brother to the three-time Grade 1 winner Go Native sold by Shanrod Stables cost Mount Eaton €34,000, while the farm bought a second colt by Fame And Glory for €33,000. He was offered by Ms Brenda O’Brien and is out of a half-sister to the Grade 1 Irish Grand National winner Shutthefrontdoor. We hope to see all three back here at the Derby Sale in two years’ time.

The November National Hunt Sale concludes tomorrow with the Older horses and Mares categories. The sale starts at 10am.
