As always at the Derby Sale there is an abundance of store horses on offer out of mares rich in top level NH form; many are siblings to Grade 1 winners and includes four close relations to Gold Cup winners.

Lot 323, already named Kauto Riko, is, as the name suggests, out of a half-sister to the brilliant dual Gold Cup and 16-time Grade 1 winner Kauto Star, while Lot 209 is a first foal out of Curragheen, an own sister to SYNCHRONISED, winner of the 2012 Gold Cup and the 2011 Lexus Chase.  Presenting has two fillies out of two full-sisters to the Gold Cup winner and six-time Grade 1 chase winner Kicking King: Lot 252 from Rathbarry Stud and Lot 253 from Limekiln Stud.

Presenting also has three siblings to Grade 1 winners on offer: Lot 45 is a half-brother to the Punchestown Novice Hurdle (G1) winner GLENCOVE MARINA, Lot 238 is a half-brother to the 2013 Bingham Hurdle winner SIMONSIG and Lot 421 is a full-brother to the Grade 1-winning chaser ANOTHERCOPPERCOAST.

The classy pedigrees come thick and fast right from the outset. Lot 48 is a King’s Theatre April-born half-brother to the 13-time winner and Hatton’s Grace Hurdle (G1) hero VOLER LA VEDETTE, Lot 50 is a Yeats gelding out of Stony View, dam of the Champion Hurdle (G1) winner ROCK ON RUBY, Lot 93 is a full-brother to another Hatton’s Grace Hurdle (G1) winner in OSCAR DAN DAN, while Lot 113 is a full-brother to this year’s gallant Grand National (G3) runner-up BALTHAZAR KING.

The multiple Grade 2 winner and Grade 1 runner-up ROBERTO GOLDBACK has a Scorpion half-brother listed as Lot 359, the sire also represented by a half-brother to the Grade 1 winner, multiple Graded race performer and last season’s Queen Mother Champion Chase (G1) and Tingle Creek (G1) runner-up, SOMERSBY (Lot 144).

A Definite Article half-brother to the exciting 2014 Bingham Novice Hurdle (G1) and Herald Champion Novice Hurdle (G1) winner FAUGHEEN is catalogued as Lot 381, and Lot 344 is a Shirocco colt out of the admirable Grade 2 winner and Grade 1–placed mare LADY CRICKET, now the dam of three black-type runners from three runners – her 2009 Shirocco gelding, the Grade 2 hurdle winner RED SHERLOCK, the best so far.

The mare Downtown Train has a Kalanisi gelding catalogued as Lot 236 and she has had two graded race winners from her three runners to date, the Grade 2 winner PUFFIN BILLY and the Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 third ZUZKA; Lot 277 is out of Godlylady, a half-sister to the three-time Grade 1 winner FLEMENSTAR.

The named Golden Birthday (Lot 278) is a Poliglote half-brother to the four-time Grade 1 chase victor, GOLDEN SILVER.

And, of course, away from the headliners, the catalogue offers buyers access to long-nurtured, successful black-type jumping pedigrees giving confidence that inherent talent can be found at all budgets, year on year.

Coinciding with the publication of the Derby Sale catalogue, Roger Casey, managing director of Tattersalls Ireland commented: “The Derby Sale has proven itself time and time again to be the leading National Hunt Store Sale in Europe with graduates continuing to produce results at all the major racing festivals and on the point to point fields across Ireland and the UK.

“This year’s catalogue certainly lives up to the reputation that the Derby Sale has developed throughout the years and again offers the very best of National Hunt horses as is expected from Europe’s Leading National Hunt Bloodstock Auctioneers.”

Selling starts each day at 10.30am, and all store horse lots catalogued are eligible for the €100,000 Tattersalls Ireland George Mernagh Memorial Sales Bumper, which will be held at the 2015 Grand National meeting at Fairyhouse.
