Shark Sails to Victory in Listed Roses Stakes

There was Stakes success for September Yearling Sale graduate SALE SHARK in the Listed Roses Stakes on the concluding day of the York Ebor Festival.

The son of Bayside Boy was doubling his career tally having won on debut at Hamilton in May, while he also produced solid efforts this season in the Molecomb Stakes and Windsor Castle Stakes.

He was one of nine purchases by his trainer Hugo Palmer and SackvilleDonald at the September Yearling Sale last year, where the duo also sourced the admirable ADAAY OF SCARLETT and MIA FANTASIA, winner of the seven-furlong nursery at York last Thursday.

Sale Shark is owned by Orange & Owen, and is a half-brother to the Stakes performer Ektiyaar and dual Group 3 winner New Providence, who was formerly trained by Hugo Palmer. He is one of 63 horses entered in the €250,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes, and also holds engagements in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes and the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy.

A total 12 yearlings by Sale Shark’s sire Bayside Boy will be offered across the opening two days of the September Yearling Sale, and these include a colt out of the dual Listed winner Folie de Louise (Lot 378), a half-brother to the recent two-year-old winner Sanbona Warrior (Lot 455), and a half-brother to the Birdcatcher Nursery winner Last Encore (Lot 468).

The remarkable run of success for two-year-old graduates of last year’s September Yearling Sale shows no sign of slowing, with Denmark, Spain and Sweden added to the list of countries celebrating winners last week. An impressive total of 72 individual horses have now won 87 two-year-old races this season across a number of racing jurisdictions.
