Tattersalls Ireland appoints Tomasz Szumski as Polish representative

Tattersalls Ireland is delighted to announce the appointment of Tomasz Szumski as its official representative in Poland, reinforcing the company’s commitment to Polish racing. The announcement comes on the back of a successful weekend for Tattersalls Ireland in the country, with September Yearling Sale graduate TIME FOR THE STAR winning the Polish Derby after being purchased by trainer Adam Wyrzyk and Tomasz Szumski.

It also coincides with the renewal of Tattersalls Ireland’s sponsorship on one of Warsaw’s premier race days in August, where both Tattersalls Ireland and Tattersalls will sponsor feature races. The continued support underlines the importance of the Polish market to the Tattersalls group and its commitment to attracting international buyers to its bloodstock sales.

Szumski has extensive experience within the Polish racing industry, having previously held both jockey and trainer licences. That background has proved invaluable in his work with Tattersalls Ireland’s Polish clients in recent years, assisting buyers at sales and helping to develop the company’s presence in the region.

His appointment formalises an already successful relationship as Tattersalls Ireland continues to build on the growing interest from Polish owners, trainers and breeders.

Commenting on his appointment, Tomasz Szumski said:

“I am delighted to officially join Tattersalls Ireland as its representative in Poland. Having worked closely with Polish buyers over the past few years, I have seen first-hand the increasing appetite for sourcing quality bloodstock from Ireland. Tattersalls Ireland offers an outstanding range of horses across its Flat and National Hunt sales, and I look forward to continuing to build relationships within the Polish racing industry and welcoming even more buyers to Fairyhouse in the years ahead.”

“Seeing Time For The Star win the Polish Derby was a very proud moment for me. I was delighted to help source him at the September Yearling Sale, and his success is another example of the quality and value available at Tattersalls Ireland.”

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said:

“We are delighted to officially welcome Tomasz to the team. He has already established excellent relationships with our Polish clients and has played an important role in growing our business in this market. His previous experience in Polish racing as both a jockey and trainer, combined with his understanding of the Polish and Irish racing industries, makes him an invaluable addition to our international representative team.

Kerins added:

“The strength of our relationship with Poland was highlighted again at the weekend when Time For The Star, purchased by trainer Adam Wyrzyk and our newly appointed Polish representative Tomasz Szumski for €22,000 at the 2024 September Yearling Sale, won the Polish Derby at Służewiec Racecourse. It is a wonderful result for his connections and another example of the success Polish buyers are enjoying with Tattersalls Ireland graduates.”
