Top Level Success For Flat Graduates

Graduates Caballo De Mar and City Of Memphis both landed high-profile victories in recent days, and those wins now leave connections dreaming of bigger targets later this summer.

Caballo De Mar struck at Group 1 level for a second time when landing the Group 1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier at Longchamp. The five-year-old was adding to his Group 1 Prix du Cadran victory last autumn, and his big mid-summer target is the Ascot Gold Cup next month.

The five-year-old has been a remarkable improver, graduating through the handicap ranks and last Thursday’s win was a ninth career victory and means his career earnings are just short of €800,000.

Trainer George Scott and owners Victorious Racing now head to Royal Ascot with a live Gold Cup contender, and Scott said afterwards that “he thinks the two-and-a-half mile Gold Cup trip is him all over, and he’s a very special racehorse.”

He was purchased at the September Yearling Sale from Jerome and Lisa Hulin’s Acorn Stud by Billy Jackson-Stops and George Scott for €33,000.

Group 2 Lanwades Success for City Of Memphis

City Of Memphis is beginning to fulfil her full potential and she proved too strong for her rivals in the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes at The Curragh.

The four-year-old daughter of Sioux Nation has had a high profile ever since she topped the 2024 Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up Sale. Her latest Group 2 success came just 48 hours after a remarkable renewal of this year’s Breeze Up Sale at Fairyhouse, which attracted unprecedented crowds and one of the strongest international buying benches seen at any Breeze Up Sale this season.

She was purchased from Katie Walsh’s Greenhills Farm by Mark McStay’s Avenue Bloodstock and her trainer, while her owners the Zinlo Syndicate also owned Group 1 Irish Oaks third Purple Lily.

She is now unbeaten in three starts since reappearing after a solid effort in last year’s Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas, and she looks a filly worthy of her place in some of Europe’s top mile races.

Trainer Paddy Twomey did state that Group 1 races such as the Prix Maurice De Gheest, Prix Rothschild, and the Matron Stakes are possible targets, while her big end of year target could be the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland.

Twomey has done exceptionally well with graduates from the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up Sale, and purchased another daughter of Sioux Nation last Friday for Bond Thoroughbred Ltd.

Listed Success For Lamborghini Bf in Sweden

September Yearling Sale graduate Lamborghini Bf won the Listed Tryckservice Jagersro Sprint, adding to a listed success at Bro Park last autumn.

The five-year-old has developed into one of Sweden’s leading sprinters, dominating from the outset, and coming home four lengths clear of his rivals.

The son of Holy Roman Emperor was a €40,000 purchase from The Castlebridge Consignment by Paul Harley and his trainer Fredrik Reuterskiold.
